Cub Scout Pack 3030

Welcomes You to the Adventure of Cub Scouting!

(It's not just for kids!)

Parent Meeting Information

~~2000-2001 Program Year~~

At this meeting, we will inform parents about Cub Scouting and the Boy Scouts of America. This is very important information for you and your Cub Scout. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Leader in charge of your Cub's den, Cub Master or the Assistant Cub Master. We are always open to hear your comments, ideas, suggestions, and/or criticisms. We look forward to having a great year with your family.

Packs Responsibilities to the Cub Scout and their Families is to:

  • You can find our pack's site https://members.tripod.com/~pack3030/index.html
  • In our busy lives now a days, many of us adults have forgotten what is to just plain "PLAY". We as a pack have not forgotten that. In Cub Scouts we have a saying, "Keep it Simple, Make it Fun!" (KISMIF) There will be many activities and adventures that will help strengthen the family and give opportunities for working together and playing together.

Den Leaders Responsibilities The den leader has a responsibility to:

We ask now for you to "Do Your Best" to support and take part in all den and pack activities.

With your cooperation, you can help your Cub's Den Leader in many ways. They have many, many ideas for adding spark to the den's program and having fun. They will need your help in putting the program plans into action.

Families Responsibilities In Advancements Families are expected to work with Cubs on Advancement.

We will not list all the standing rules for our pack here, but there are responsibilities that you have as a parent/guardian of a Cub Scout. When you signed the registration form, you were signing a promise too. We are asking just as a Cub promises to "Do his Best", that you will too.

The Tiger Cub families will work together as a group led by a Tiger Den Leader, who is guided by a Tiger Group Coach.  Tiger Cubs do not have a formal advancement plan. They earn immediate recognition for activities through stickers, beads, and iron-on Tiger Tracks. Beads can be presented at Pack Meetings.

All boys, regardless of age (but excluding Tiger Cubs) earn the Bobcat Badge first by learning the Cub Scout Promise, Law of the Pack, handshake, salute, sign, motto, and the meaning of "Webelos." After receiving the Bobcat Badge, the boy works on requirements based on his grade. Our ceremony for this is in November of each year.

Wolf and Bear Cub families work on 12 achievements to earn the Wolf and Bear Badge and after he earns his Wolf or Bear Badge. Rank ceremonies are usually in January or February. Then he may work on electives in different areas until he is old enough to begin work on the next rank. He may work on as many Arrow Points as he wishes.

Webelos Scouts will work more together as a den. The boy first works on his Webelos Badge. (Within 3 months of joining the pack) Families will provide Activity Badge Counselors to help with each of the 20 Activity Badges. Boys should earn an activity badge each month. And last the Arrow of Light Award (the highest award in Cub Scouting) which prepares him for Boy Scouting. This award ceremony is held at the Blue & Gold in February.

When the boy earns the Arrow of Light, then he graduates to Boy Scouting and the boy crosses over into aTroop in March.  Also, if a Webelos Scout turns 11 without having earned the Arrow of Light he can also join a Boy Scout Troop.

The Cub Scout's families will provide most of the opportunities for their advancements.

Participation in the Parent meetings, our Committee meetings, and Pack meetings.

    1. At Parent meetings, you will learn exactly how you can help.
    2. At the Committee meetings, you'll see the Committee members in action
    3. At our Pack meetings, You will be presenting your Cub with his awards!

We do this because it is you that work along with your Cub.

It is important that you fully understand the requirements of the advancement program.

Cubs will need your help and will not be able to complete many areas without it. It is not up to the den leaders to make sure your Cub is advancing. This is your responsibility!  We, as a pack, will question a parent if we see that their Cub is not advancing.  We ask you to join and participate in our adventure.

Families must also keep good records of their Cub's advancements.  Cubs must bring handbooks to every meeting to allow leaders to keep updated records and sign books where needed. Wolf and Bear Cub families will sign Cub's book, and in Webelos, the leader will sign each requirement for activity badges as it is done in the den, or when they show completion.

    1. Cubs may prepare for and practice for advancement and awards in the den, but the majority is to be completed at home with their families. Again, an important reason to understand the requirements of the advancement program.
    2. We would like to point out a few things we have found to be helpful in working with youth in general. First, when working with Cubs, we must not be too hard or too easy on them.

Every boy is unique and different, so we must see to it they are doing requirements, but mostly having fun and learning along the way.

    Most important thing is the

    "Doing", Not the "Getting".

The experience is what counts! Not the badge.

Families & Cub Scout's Responsibilities in the Den & Pack

  • This is yours or the cubs' responsibility! You need to inform the den leader as far in advance as possible. Parents do not need to attend den meetings of Wolf Dens or Bear Dens and especially Webelos unless they are the Badge Counselors. Check with the den leaders as to their preference.
  • Cub Scout's Responsibilities are to:

Responsibilities At Pack Meetings & Advancement Ceremonies

Pack Meetings are a time for families to get together once a month. During the pack meetings we will have songs, skits, activities and fun for everyone. We will also have ceremonies to recognize the cubs advancements. A lot of time is put into preparation for these ceremonies by our Cub Master and Assistant Cub Master. We ask that you follow a few guidelines to help us make these very special for our Cubs, as they are meant to be.

When each of us does our own part in meeting our responsibilities,

it makes everyone's job a little easier.

We thank you for taking the time for reading this information.

If you have any questions please contact a member of the pack committee or your Scout's leader.

    Functional Positions

Many Positions all need to be filled for the pack to have a successful year. Please indicate your first four choices of service for this coming year? Some of these positions are short-term and others are for the entire program year. At least one parent from each family is required to assist if this program is to work!
